A Letter to a Friend

³   There are five parts in a letter. They are –
      1.    Date
      2.    Greeting
      3.    Body
      4.    Closing
      5.    Name of the writer

A1. Look at the different parts of a letter and answer the following questions:
      i)     Can you find the comma in the letter? How many commas are there?
              Answer: Yes, I can find the comma in the letter. There are three commas in the letter.
      ii)   When was the letter written? Where is the comma?
              Answer: The letter was written on January 15, 2013.
      iii)  Who got the letter? Where is the comma?
              Answer: Ismail got the letter. The comma is after the greeting.
      iv)   The closing comes just before the name. Where is the comma?
              Answer: The comma is after the closing.


Language Focus
Use of comma in a letter

·        We use comma between the day of the month and year.
e.g. January 15, 2013
·        We use comma after addressing somebody.
e.g. Dear Mary,
·            We use comma for closing a letter before writing writer’s name.
  e. g. Your friend, Rana
